JULY 2010 NEWSLETTER

The Valley Singles Club is a great way to meet people and have fun!

Valley Singles Club was founded by Debbie Dehner of Fountain Hills, AZ in January of 2000 as a non-profit organization.  The club has successfully created many long lasting relationships over the last nine years and plans to continue for the next eighty or so years, if not longer!

We are a group of single people from all over the valley who get together for a little fun.  We plan a variety of activities every weekend.  These activities include happy hours, game nights, clubbing/dancing, house parties, dinners, movies, seminars, hiking, camping, travel, and many more.  We have travel discount opportunities including discount cruises, hotels, cars, dream trips and weekend getaways at a variety of different resorts.  To ensure that our members meet a variety of people, we network and plan group events with other singles clubs in the valley on the first Friday of every month.

Our club slogan is “Don’t Do It Alone”

Our website is valleysinglesclub.org

How Do I Join?

It’s simple -- all you have to do is fill out the application and return it with your annual membership fee of $25.00.  You can find the application on our website listed above or you can call Debbie Dehner for a copy.

Memberships are open to all the singles in the valley.  If you are not certain this club is for you, come be our guest at an event of your choice.  We will not turn away any unexpected visitors.  If you are looking for us at an event, we make it easy -- all you have to do is LOOK FOR THE SMILEY FACE.

In the unfortunate event that you will not be able to attend, please be courteous and let us know so that there are no hold-ups. The annual membership fee pays for administrative expenses such as post office box rental, administrative supplies, web site maintenance, and light refreshments at various events.

House Parties

Our house parties are potlucks.  If you would like to participate in the house parties, please sign up to let the host know what you would like to bring.  Please provide enough to serve 6 or more people.  The parties are BYOB.  As many of you might remember, we used to charge a fee to attend the house parties.  But due to the economic situation, we would like to only enforce the $7.00 fee for those who do not bring a dish, and that money will go into the checking account so that it can be invested into the extras for the parties.

Big for a Day Program

What is Big Brothers Big Sisters?  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Arizona is a donor and volunteer supported youth organization which focuses on one-to-one relationships that result in positive impacts on youth, families and communities.

  • Who would I be working with?  Kids who sign up for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program are put on a waiting list until the ideal “Big” is ready to be matched with him or her.  The agency does a special activity for these children quarterly which could be anything from a picnic or ballgame to a hike or day at the fun park.

  • What is this program about?  The Big for a Day Program is an opportunity for individuals from our club to spend quality time with these children in a supervised setting.  The agency plans the waitlist events based on our club’s schedule and interests, will have a staff member present during the activity, and provides transportation for the kids to and from.

  • What are the benefits?  Engaging the children in these activates is beneficial for them because they will meet new people, learn new skills and have fun.  As a volunteer, you will benefit from knowing you are making a difference and get the chance to be a kid again.  These activities also give the Big Brothers Big Sisters staff a good opportunity to interact with the children, getting to know them better in order to make an ideal match with a “Big” in their community.

  • How do I get involved?  Individuals who are interested in participating would be asked to go through our enrollment process at no cost to you.  The process takes about an hour and includes filling out an application, rolling prints for a background check, an interview, and a brief orientation.  As a club, we would ask that 3 or 4 members/volunteers at a time participate in an event 3 or 4 times a year.
  •

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:
Diane Derickson, BBBS Representative, will be at Debbie’s house the weekend of July 3rd @ 2PM to get participants enrolled in the Big for a Day Program and to answer any questions.

PLANNING NEWSLETTER

Please call Debbie or email her with ideas and information as to which events you would like to sponsor.  This is for preliminary planning of club activities.  Please have events written up and ready to give me or email me with all the information (place, address, prices, phone number, directions, and discounts).  If we don’t get it on time, it will not get in the newsletter.  Deadline for newsletters is the last Friday of every month.  Or come to a meeting to help plan.  RSVP:  Debbie (480) 837-9449.

We encourage our members to get involved.  If you are interested in hosting an event, please contact Debbie Dehner to set up the details.  Carpools are available to and from all events.  We ask that carpoolers donate to the driver for gas.  For information about events, directions, and RSVP’s, please contact the core member that is hosting the event.  Phone numbers are listed below.

If you have any comments to improve the club, please let me know.  Better yet, come and join us to discuss them with everyone.

I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for all your support given to me over the past ten years.  For those people who sponsored activities, an even bigger bouquet of appreciation!  Without you, there would be no club today.  Forming new relationships and making new friends who were but strangers not so long ago, proves Will Rogers right again when he said, “a stranger is just a friend I haven't met”.  And most of all, thanks to you our members for all the treasures you really are!

EVENT SPONSORS

Sponsors, please be aware that your event and your phone number will be published in the Times Newspaper, Let's Go Newspaper, Singles Scene Web Site, Valley Singles Club Web Site, Love in Life Newspaper, and FH Community Guide.  This is for RSVP purposes only!  We need a head count in order to prepare for our events and make them more enjoyable for everyone.

Monthly print editions for the Let's Go Newspaper are mailed through the post office to subscribers in Fountain Hills, Rio Verde, Tonto Verde, Fort McDowell, and certain areas of Northeast Scottsdale.  Extra copies can be picked up at the following locations:  AJ's in Scottsdale (Via Linda), AM/PM (Shea/FLW), Starbucks Coffee (Mtn. View/Via Linda), Circle K, Chamber of Commerce, FH Convenience Express, The FH Times, Ha Ha China Restaurant, Peaks Fitness, Texaco Gas Station, and Pony Express, just to name a few.
